Strictly speaking 4444 is the top up number and then option 2 will tell you the balance. *#10# will display your balance on screen without having to listen to a recorded message.

As anothe option there's an entry in your phonebook alonside bolt-ons, customer service and info numbers too. Generally at the end so easy to scroll back from "A".
