Maybe the older ones are better? I sold my perfect working order 2 yr old Dyson on ebay simply because it was useless at sucking up hair and stuff from carpet. In the Miele cat and dog brigade now.
My Dyson, Derek, has lived very happily with me all his life. His siblings, Milly Cat and Dog and Henry are jealous when I praise him for his performance.
Dysons are a classic example of good advertising combined with setting an artificially high price. The inflated price makes customers think the product must be so much better than other cleaners.
Other vacuum cleaners that actually perform well ie Miele, Sebo and Bosch are also pricey- in fact, the Dysons are less expensive than many of them. In reality, buy a "bargain" priced vacuum, get poor performance (Which?s conclusion).
