Buy a new one form Argos. If the new one still doesn't work you can get your money back and can then spend some time investigating why the old one doesn't work in your new house.
Do recheck all the obvious stuff though. Get new batteries for the handset if possible or make sure the charging is working. Leave it somewhere warm and dry for a while. Check any connections by wiggling gently to see if the fault comes and goes. Finally try tapping or hitting stuff, nothing to loose!
