Shredded paper disposal ?

I have a temporary job at a firm of solicitors shredding the old files and getting rid of the paper. Easy or so I thought, getting rid of the paper seems to be a problem though.
They did have an arrangement with a local farm to use it as animal bedding but that has fallen through, apparently the ink on the paper is considered toxic and can not now be used as bedding. (EU regs again) The paper disposal companies will not take shredded paper, the local council will not accept it at the tip as it is commercial waste. We can not dispose of it unshredded as it is confidential and has to be shredded before leaving the office. Any ideas ?

The Law Society has rules & recommendations about confidential waste - you need to look these up.

You really need a certificate of destruction from a commercial shredding company.

I think you can take paper to an incinerator, and witness it being burnt.
Well we have locked bins and the shredding company turns up empties them all and shreds on site using a giant shredder fixed into the back of a truck. Not sure what firm myself but do a Yellow search you'll find someone.
I recall one local authority recycling place discouraging us from putting shredded paper in the paper recycling , and I have seen an authority suggest it is put in with the green waste (grass, branches)
How do they git rid of other rubbish? Can't you just shred it then chuck it out in the normal rubbish?
Try checking with any of these firms, picking the nearest to your firm.

Hope this helps :-)
That's what we do EB, I don't understand why that can't be done?
put a match to it?
Good idea, factor, but in Dover the district council wiil now be charging for ALL green waste collection will be licenced for all households, at a charge of £40/year. This is in place of the currently free collection service, on the basis of only 72% of households being able to use the current service.

If one council can do this, then beware everywhere else - it's coming to a council near you!

Too much of it to put with the ordinary waste, we are talking 200 to 300 bin bags in total. There is no room to park a lorry near , it is in a town centre with narrow streets and a one way system, you can't even park a car, within 200 yards. There a large powered shredder that can take around 12 sheets at a time.
Ah I understand now! Sorry! :)
Our confidential waste gets taken away by a secure disposal company, they charge £45 for up to 18 bags. I don't know what they do with it, I think it gets incinerated.
Is it possible to move the actual shredder to a more convenient location so the waste can be taken away more conveniently?
i have a friend who will use all she can get for "bedding" for horses, pity she is in south wales, and you are in devon ?????
Perhaps ask the council about them removing it as trade waste.

I am in North Herts still too far from Wales, it was used as bedding for animals but the EU has decided it is unsafe apparently.Something about the animals chewing it , the ink is produced from Hydrocarbons ( oil) not good to eat. Can't burn it we are a smokless zone no bonfires or incinerators allowed .
The solicitor wants it shredded on site to be sure no confidential information is lost.
make briquettes
Suck the air out of the filled bags with one of these. That would make them easier to carry.

It might be worth using a pair of your wife's tights to filter the air and stop shredded paper getting into the pump.

Have checked and the shredded paper is still OK for horses bedding but not other animals. I am going to take it to a stables.
