if it is one of those with clear panels, the best way would be to put a whole new panel in over the one that is torn by using sturdy sticky backed plastic.
B&Q sell clear gaffer tape. Make sure the canopy is clean and dry before you attach it.

To get a neat finish use regular sellotape to bring the edges neatly together and then use the gaffer tape on the other side. Remove the sellotape and repest on the other side.

Thx for yr advice dotty & eccles but we've tried gaffer tape and dampness always manages to seep thru & 'release' it. The tear isn't on the clear panel. I can't sew it in anyway as the tear is to 'precise'. Didn't know if there is an adhesive that I could spray or spread on a piece of material and then stick it on. Hmm.

Don't know what the material is that is damaged. Is it like a canvas. If so, Blacks Outdoor or Yeomans can supply a patch which is for repairs on canvas tents. I think there is also an adhesive that may do. If you think that would be any good and need any more info I will look it up later as I have to go out now.
Clean the damaged area with a small amount of detergent (so as to remove any grease) and dry with a paper towel. Get some of the tape shown in the link, and cut two equal lengths to cover the damaged area.
Apply one on the outside and then carefully apply the other on the inside.
Make sure your edges are stuck down... a lot cheaper than a new canopy.

Another option is to find a sail maker/repairer... they will find it an easy job to unpick your existing window panel , and stitch in a new clear panel... just like they would on a windsurfing sail.
