is the video connected to your tv?
it could be that the tv is programmed to view the video on another channel

I recorded a programme the other night and when I came to play it back, there was sound but no picture. I then tried anther video that i had bought, and the same thing happened. I have only had this video recorder for about 18 months.
Check your scart leads to make sure they are pushed all the way in, if one of the prongs isn't making a connection this can happen, it happens to me now and again.

Thanks for that Don 1. I have just checked, but it didn't make any difference. As well as no picture, the sound is distorted as well. Would buying a new scart lead help? If I can't fix it myself, I'll have to call in a tv engineer.

You have to set the tv channel to the video and the set a channel to tv. When you record make sure you have selected the right channel on your video. See if you can watch the program on your tv on the channel that you use to watch the video. If you use the scart connection should be av1 or av2 on your tv, then see if you can watch other channels on the av 2 or 2. Put a type in and try and record.
