Just waiting for the men to come with the new washing machine. They will have to turn off the electricity at the meter to hard wire the electric cable. Will this affect the solar panel inverter at all? Will they have to switch that off as well?

No electricians about this morning?
Would love to help but simply don't know. What I would say though is that I'd expect the w/m installers to know what they are doing, so trust there will be no issue.

Thanks for the, reply O.G. That's what my husband said as well. I'm such a worrier about things like this. I hate having work done in the house. I find it very stressful.
I'm not a solar panel installer but the first use of any power generated by these systems is as an infeed to the house. However there has to be a way of switching off the power completely to the house via the mains switch on the CU (or qualified persons would run the risk of getting an electrical shock on a sunny day).
I assume that, if one switches off the main switch on the CU, the solar panels feeds generated power straight back into the grid since the house demand is zero, but we are hardly talking of a loss of mega £££s here (in lost infeed).
I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks to you both. The machine is in and they didn't have to switch off the electricity because there is a fuse in the thing that the wire goes in to and they just took that out, I presume.
I now have a real problem. I don't know how to open the door to put the washing in. Flippin' technology!
Glass hammer ?
Question Author
Won't the hammer shatter when I use it to bash the door, O.G.?
If all else fails read the instructions. Assuming it came with some.
I would presume it to be a manual opening device rather than electrick.
Being male I wouldn't know. (Can someone tell me what a washing machine is, please?)
Question Author
I have read the instructions, Dodger. I'm a female. It's males that don't read instructions isn't it?
Nowhere does it say. 'How to open door'. My previous machine had a switch to depress to open the door which was clearly marked,'Door' This one doesn't.

(I rang the shop and asked them. I was being a bit wimpy with the mechanism and not pulling it hard enough. I was frightened of breaking it.)

Ttilly the switch on the wash programme might be set to on a wash. Switch that to off then it might open. Hope this helps.
Just read you posted that on wednesday . Bet you have sussed it by now lol
