Thinking of not sending cards after this year - not any that have to go in the post anyway, as it's costing too much. Want to add a note to this year's cards to advise this is the last year ..... how do I put it?

Just don't send any, don't bother with a note. Anyone who's mildly interested in why they didn't receive one from you may get in touch and you can tell them why you've stopped sending them. That's what I did and very liberating it is too!

Say you are giving the money to your favourite charity instead.
I wouldnt mention it. Next year you might change your mind and then what would you say? Next year send ecards. Nobody needs a years notice of what you are going to do March Hare.

Good idea Jeza, were it true, but I won't be ..... I just don't want the trouble of writing, sending and paying for them and the spiralling postage ...........
You'll probably get handouts from those you tell if they think you're that hard up
Question Author
It's not a case of hard up - more a case of being ripped off by the post office ..... 60 p per card and usually send 50+ ..... that's £30.00 in postage stamps which personally I think is a step too far!!
I just stopped quite a few years ago, except childrens, and give cash to charity.
Yes but you said you didn't have any to go in the post.

As for the cards, you can buy a pack in a pound shop
how much are they elvis ?
>>>60p per card

Are you like Hyacinth Bucket then, only using First Class post because Second Class is beneath you?
;-)
Why not buy a book of stamps every few months or so to help spread the costs instead of buying them all at once?
I only send to relatives abroad thesedays and my siblings. I stopped sending to neighbours as where I live people dont speak so why send cards?
The Christmas after my husband died, I was having to look after the pennies a lot. I sent an email to all my good friends wishing them good wishes and everyone understood.
I send ecards to family abroad and to some Facebook friends whose address I no longer have.
Some folks I know pay for a small ad wishing all their friends a Merry Xmas and Happy new year etc. Would that help?

I was in a stationers, asked how much the cards were, got told they were so much for a pack of ten, had to say "That's no use. I haven't got ten friends" Sad, eh ?

I do find that I get cards from people who I don't really know, relatives I never see, who express no interest in me for 12 months and who I don't like anyway, and various people in business who send them out for PR. When I pruned the list to people who are friends and who would appreciate a card, it went from over 60 to 8. Hardly worth getting the Letraset out.
Fred, everyone has relatives who as you put it 'show no interest' for 12 months

But the fact they send a Xmas card at least means they are thinking of you
>>>But the fact they send a Xmas card at least means they are thinking of you

. . . or, far more likely, that they've simply dug out the piece of paper from last year, headed 'Christmas card list', and sent out cards to the same people without actually giving them any thought at all. (Indeed, many people simply click a single button on their computer to generate sticky labels, which they then stick onto envelopes which each bear a card with just the sender's first name on it).
Enjoy this card while you can, it will be the last.
