At the Christmas market in Austria I saw and bought some things to burn incense. It comprised of a roll of black incredibly friable stuff and some incense. I was told it was easy. Does anyone know how to light these things correctly and when do you add the incense. Apologies if I'm in the wrong section but I didn't know where to put it. Bramleyboy.

No expert but I think you just apply a flame to the incense until it start smouldering. I would have thought you'd load the burner with incense first ?
light the black disc(charcoal usually) with a match lighter it will start to smoke.
When the disc is glowing add the incense. This is going to get very smoky if your indoors you may wish to open a window!

A Demonstration. (Have a look at the comments here about using alumunium foil)

Two minds...etc, Scrivens!

Thank you for that. I don't have any tongs and couldn't hold the disc long enough! Also the charcoal breaks very easily. But I've tried it now and it works. Thank you. Bramleyboy
