I have but it was almost 50 years ago (Mum's idea) - the Teacher soon realised I wasn't a willing pupil and I still have a broad Lancashire accent.

I've not attended elocution lessons, per se, but elocution was very much part of the public speaking lessons that formed part of the curriculum for everyone when I was at school.

My mother used to give us examples of her elocution "rhymes" . Around the ragged rock,the ragged rascal ran.- is the one I most remember! Is this anything to do with your school reunion thing btw,tamaris?

No not at all I am a northerner, and quite well spoken but I thought it would be nice to have the edge taken off, I have always wanted to do it.

The reaction I get to my accent is either incredulity or it is perceived as quaint.


A recent acquaintance- an American lady , calls it 'Dahling!'
