If the clock pilot lamp isn't flashing, press the function button (bottom centre) until it starts doing so. Then proceed as above.

I tried that but the thing still won't work. I seemed to have set the timer for some reason and I can't or couldn't get rid of the wee arrows with the line in front of them.
I can't do it at the moment Chris as a substation has taken up a bad habit of smoking and everything is off :/
Will try later on - maybe

You've either got 'Cooking Time' or 'End of Cooking Time' enabled then.
Press the function button (bottom centre) repeatedly until the 'cooking duration' pilot lamp (top left) flashes. If the display shows anything other than 0:00 press the minus button (bottom left) until it goes down to zero. Wait 5 seconds and the light will go out. You can then set the time, as above.
If you see 0:00 is already there when the cooking duration pilot lamp flashes, press the function button again until the 'end of cooking time' pilot lamp (bottom left) flashes. That will then show the time which has been set. Press the minus button until the time of day (which will probably be 00:00, since you've not set it yet) is shown. You'll hear a beep and the light will go out. You can then set the time, as above.
