Found some 135/24EXP rolls of film the other day, heaven knows how old they are, maybe 25-30 years.

Would it be worth my while finding a shop to develop them in the highly unlikely event that anything could be developed?

Thanks

You can send them to be developed , the shop will only make prints from any negatives that are good enough to print. You only pay the developing cost and the cost of what prints are good enough. Alternately, you can have the films developed only ,no prints.
Then you can look at the negatives and see if there are any you want to see printed and just get those ones printed. Each negative has a number so you can just say 'Print nos 5 , 8, & 21 for example.

Thanks very much Eddie x

(the things you find buried in a dusty box are or can be intriguing)
Have they been exposed !.
Question Author
no, but probably aged quite a bit :-)
Maybe decomposed would be a better word...
Are they rolled back into the container as they would be when used, or do they have the tongue sticking out?
Question Author
oh, heck, Hoppy, you're going to give me bad news.

The tongue is sticking out.

If I were to grab one, and pull, it would unravel big style. :-(
Probably never used then. Usually when finished they get fully rewound back in.

Just chuck 'em away.

ooh, thanks Hoppy xx

Now, if anyone still has a camera that takes that type of film......

The chances are that it has never been used if the tongue is sticking out. A photographer once told me that it is the latent image on film which deteriorates with time, not the film itself. In other words, if the film has been exposed it is likely that the pictures will not be in very good condition when developed; if it hasn't been exposed you MIGHT get away with using it but, at that age, it's not worth the risk, even if you do have a camera than can take it. I think the best advice is - bin it.

bin it is BHG, and very many thanks to each who have taken their time to post. xx
Probably very satisfying to pull the film all the way out, or am I just being childish?
Wheeeeeeeeeeeee ! I would !
Was it you that used to pull the tape out of cassettes and chuck them on the grass verge, Murraymints?
Along with burst bubble wrap !! Mea culpa ...lol
I've still got a camera that would take this film. Want my address Alba?
There was a case several years back when someone found an old exposed film and sent it to be processed. Turned out to have previously unseen photos of The Beatles before they became famous. They sold for several thousand £s .
I had a roll developed that was at least 10 years old. I just sent it off for prints and paid extra to have them on DVD. They were fine.
Aye, but the 'tongue' wouldn't have been sticking out.
And amazingly one or two of the pics were of Hamish x
It doesn't follow, douglas. I was taught to leave the tongue out on rewind as it kept the light out better. Difficult - you had to listen carefully as you rewound.
