pc data loss claim

i was informed on this forum that i could claim for loss of data when my hard drive crashed i contacted my local trading standards and they said i could pursue a claim but had to prove exsistance of data- such as a backed up cd-r .......which means.....the data isnt.........lost?????

Is everbody in the UK getting into the ''claim for everything'' mentality these days ? Cant people sometimes take it for granted that the world is not perfect and when you use hardware that it will fail at sometime and when it does its just bad luck and carry on.
As with any insurance claim you have to be able to prove your loss and that you had taken all reasonable steps to prevent it. No proof....no claim.
