This really belongs in topic "How it doesn't work" but here will have to do.

I've acquired a new mobile phone and am trying to set it up with service provider Smarty which seemed to have got good reputation.

As usual with modern technology it doesn't work (whatever happened to plug and play).

So I try to log in to the Smarty website, and they invoke the new two-level-authentication and send a code to (yes you've guessed it) my new non-working telephone. How stupid can they get?

Grrrrrrrrr.

Any Abers with experience of Smarty ?

I'm with Smarty.  I don't remember having any problems - there was a step by step guide online that I had to follow.

try the 'I am snookered' function - bad luck.

If it's new how do Smarty already know the mobile number to send the authentication code to?

You have to set it up online and if course input your number.

Duh!   It's on the Sim which they provide.

Thanks Barry, I'll give it a try.

Duh!!  I was genuinely asking becasue I don't understand. Of course it's on the SIM but how do they know YOU have that SIM if you haven't even set up the phone yet? I can't help so I'll stop asking stupid quuestions.

What a lovely leftie.

I've been with smarty for well over a year now and have always found them very reliable and I'm very happy with the service.

Just persevere with them as am sure it's only teething problems you're having.

I guess they would know because it is that SIM that won't set up with them.

I have no doubt it's all explained in the e-mail that you can read by clicking on the e-mail client app on your phone.

My sincere apologies Prudie, I get bad-tempered when thwarted by non-working modern technology, and I was out of order to respond as I did - I regret doing so and am really sorry for picking on someone as nice as you.

You can get the authetication code sent to your email address instead of the phone.
