Dress code

There doesn't really seem to be an appropriate category to put this in, so this seems as good a place as any. I am attending a wedding at the weekend and will be wearing a new three piece suit for the first time. What I need to know is, what is the appropriate dress etiquette when wearing a waistcoat? Do I wear a belt or is this a bit of a no-no when wearing a waistcoat?

By belt, I assume you mean belt on your trousers, then yes its ok, when wearing a waistcoat, (smartest form of dress a man can wear), leave the bottom button undone, and if you have a pocket watch and chain, even better, but not neccessary, you'll look the business anyway.

You are speaking of a man's three-piece suit? If so, then yes, do wear a belt, and as Lonnie states, leave the last button of the waistcoat unbuttoned. The last button of the jacket should never be buttoned as well. Careful when you tie your tie. Only the smallest amount of the fabric should show with the waistcoat.

It is also a good idea to tighten your belt one notch more than normal. I have found that otherwise, the buckle makes the waistcoat and jacket stick out just a bit giving you a bit more belly than you really have.

Cheers guys. I was unsure about a belt as it would be worn purely for aesthetic reasons as the trousers don't need one in fact they are quite snug!) As for tightening it to lose my belly, I'm liking the sound of that!!
