Can anybody help me? Technology has beaten me! I have just collected a top up TV box and want to connect it to my TV (obviously!) but I also want to connect my DVD and Video player as well, is this possible? I have connected the set top box and DVD via scart 1(as per instructions) but every time I switch on the DVD player the set top box picture disappears! I was advised to buy a 5 in 1 scart adaptor so that I can have all three working but I'm really stuck now! I assume I plug the extension into scart 1 on the back of the TV, but then what? And where do I put the ariel leads? Help!!!!!!!

The aerial leads go to the Freeview box. Scarts from this go to the video recorder (you didn't say if this was a DVD/video combined, but I'm assuming you are more concerned about recording from the box). If it's a seperate DVD player, you may just have to connect this as and when wanted UNTIL you get a double Scart connecter.

Anyway, from the video it's into the TV as I assume you had it before.

When you record Freeview it will need recording through the Scart AV1 and the Freeview channel set to the correct channel and switched on. It is a bit of a pain until you get fed up of this and buy a dvd recorder with freeview tuners.
How many scart sockets on each piece of kit ? and is your scart adaptor "switchable" - ie does each socket have its own on/off switch ? Supply this info & I'll try to help.
I`m as baffled as Wj. as I`ve the same prob. I have freeview, & video recorder. The tv has 1 scart, the freeview has 1, & the video has 1. I have a scart thingy with 4 on it & it has on/off buttons. I`ve tried EVERYTHING, but can not get the video to record freeview. I can get freeview on, or the video, but can not record from freeview. I`m not in the least bit technology minded so PLEASE can anyone explain how I do it in idiot proof language. Thanks.

try this way. first a few initial connecions:

-plug aerial in to the set top box.

-rf cable from set top box out to vcr aerial in socket.

-rf cable from vcr rf out to tv aerial in.

1. disconnect aerial for the moment, play a tape you know well. tune in the tv to vcr 's signal.

2.reconnect aerial. switch on set top box. with the tv on your video channel, tune in the vcr to the set top box signal (to be able to record).

3. tune in tv to set top box directly if desired. that way, you can watch it without always going thru the vcr.

4. connect dvd to tv's scart socket.when powered on, it will usually switch over.

...you may also find it easier to connect another scart cable between set top box and vcr. You'd then need to set the vcr to its AUX or AV input to record the set top box.

I'd avoid multi scart adaptors, since you can usually only use one device at a time and they tend to interfere with each other.
