Is it true that if you scream nonstop for 7 years straight you would produce enough energy to heat a cup of coffee?

Sorry to be pedantic, but it's actually 8 years, 7 months and 6 days. Did you also know that if you farted constantly for 6 years and 9 months, you would produce enough gas to create an atomic bomb? (Yep, I got one of those e-mails too!)

miss zippy- you can fart for as many years as you wish, however you will not create a single joule of energy. Energy cannot be created nor destroyed but can only be converted from one form into another. energy is equal to an objects mass(methane or fart gas has a negligabl mass) multiplied by the speed of light sqare. this is a massive number. i woul take a huge amount of farting, probably millions of yars worth in fact, to convert even a tenth of of the energy of that containd in a nuclear bomb.

To raise the temperature of a cup of coffee from 20 Celcius (room temperature) to say 80 Celcius would take approximately 18 kCals (about 1 twelfth of a mars bar) so another way to look at it is that a mars bar would allow you to scream continuously for 91 years!
