How are 'in'fashion colors chosen

Who or how are the fashion colors chosen each season?? If someone says Purple is in! Whose idea was it ?

Basically, it's all in the hands of the one or two individuals who head the major international fashion houses such as Gucci, Chloe, Versace, Prada, Dolce E Gabanna etc... etc.. International fashion shows are held about two seasons ahead, which gives the high street stores six months or so to 'copy' the catwalk designs (watering them down to make more wearable) and get them in the shops. Hence, annoyingly, there's often not much choice between the various high street clothes stores as they have all got their inspiration from the same place.
