Well you should have had info and software with your mp3 player whether it is an ipod or another make/model.
Read the info that came with it. But basically put the disk that came with your player in your laptop if the laptop is fairly new the disk should be compatible. The installation window will pop up shortly after if not go into my computer (if you have windows) or look on your desktop for a symbol/name for the disk to click on to open it. Install all the software on there which should include any drivers you need for the mp3 player and the laptop to talk to each other properly and also some sort of music libary software in the case of ipod this is itunes - this is where the music is stored and organised into your personal laptop music collection. Once the software is installed, you may have to restart your laptop then go into the music libary you have just installed this should be on your desktop or in 'programs.' Then start feeding the cds one at a time into the laptop and save them across (input them). This music libary allows you to input data (your music via cd) and out (send them to you mp3 player) to do this attach the mp3 player via the usb port and select the songs to be sent depending on the capacity of the mp3 i.e. send the right amount of music to fit on the player memory size.
I cannot go into anymore detail as it depends what model/player you have etc. Sorry if this is too basic I am sure other people will suggest more detailed answers but well Im fairly new to it all too so I thought we might both be on the same wave length
