What would fire be like in space......

....if it was in a space shuttle, not an 'oxygen rich' type environment but standard o2 leves that we have here on earth.

Flames rise with the heat which naturally rises upwards. With no gravity inside a space ship, which way would the fire/flame go.

My friend reckons it would be like water....a wave of fire if you will.

I doubt there's any right or wrong answer as imagine it would purely be speculation & i don't think the americans send up millions of dollars worth of tin just to act like chavs starting fires.

What do you think the flame, or the tip of the match, would look like?

It's not something that keeps me awake at night, i've just always wondered is all.

An orbiting space ship in in constant free-fall so everything inside is weightless. This means convection in gases and liquids cannot occur. A burning candle would extinguish itself because the products of combustion would remain around the flame, not convect away.
