I own a Canon EOS 500N, which had a Canon 28-90 usm lens( Broken now). Someone is selling their new len from Canon 300v model ( 28-90) . i'm sure it will mount but will the auto focus work ?

Yes, the autofocus will work. I've just bought a Canon 300v and my older Canon lenses fit fine and have no problems with autofocus.
