at the moment, london is very busy with tourists and i doubt very much there will be many tickets available this way,and you could be unlucky just turning up on the hope there are tickets, for this show, which is very popular.but you might get some for other shows.
I would say that you certainly wouldn't be able to get half price tickets for Sound of Music, nor Joseph or Dirty Dancing but there are loads of other shows available at reduced prices. There are also quite a few booths doing reduced prices. I've been going up to town quite regularly in recent months to see the prosthodontist and if I'm not having major treatment, I make a late appointment and we stay in the west end for a meal and show just going to one of these booths to see what's available.
Tickets for the Sound of Music aren't sold at the 'tkts' booth in Leicester Square. See here:

The TicketMaster website shows 'not on sale', which suggests Tuesday is sold out. (Many major London shows sell out up to a year in advance).

You might be able to get tickets for Chicago, which has good reviews.

Have you tried lastminute.com? They sometimes have tickets available. I bought mine for Dirty Dancing on there and they were a lot cheaper than the box office. Good luck finding some.
