microphones very fragile?

The microphones I use with my computer seem to be v. fragile. I am on my 3rd....They wire going into the actual mike bit seems to get loose and causes crackling and so it becomes unusable....is this normal....are they fixable?

The little white plastic boom type mics that are sold for computer use are generally cheap and nasty and always looked to me as if they would break in a short space of time as you have discovered.....If you need the mic for voice recognition or chat rooms etc then I would recommend a headset mic with or without headphones.....if you don't like that idea or it doesn't suit for whatever reason then I would suggest that you give a mic from a maker like Labtec a try...might be a little dearer but usually much better quality.
