Clothing Tags

Does anyone know how theft proof clothing tags are removed ?. This is purely curiosity and not a pathway to start my own one man shop lifting spree.

Why don't you ask a sales assistant the next time you make a purchaes of clothing. I'm sure they wouldn't mind showing you if you are really interested - then again p'raps not. In this day & age retailers see everyone as 'potential' shop lifters - hence all the cameras, etc. What made you ask this question anyway?

Any store that attaches them will have the appropriate gizmo behind the counter to remove them. Tags vary from unwieldy impossible-to-miss tags, to ones that spray indelible dye if they are tampered with. Beware though - as I left a shop with a new shirst few years ago, the alarm was triggered, but they assumed it was due to another customer who had wandered between the detectors holding an item of clothing. It was in fact me - and I still had the tag attatched when I got the shirt out to wear that evening! They were very nice about it, but i was unable to wear my shirt with the massive plastic tag attached to it, so make sure they take the tag off before you leave the shop.

Thank you all, for the overwhelming confidence in my honesty !! I don't actually have an item with a tag attached but when I've seen these removed previously it would seem a narrow pin is somehow held in and could never work it out, I shall ask a assistant next time I'm out shopping. P.S Does anyone know the easiest way to Smelt Gold Bullion ?

Hi NykkieBerry This was also my train of thought, assuming they change the magnetic field, but how would a magnet hold securly what appears to be a smooth pin !!

Gold, 24K Pure, Has a melting point of 1945 degrees Fahrenheit (1063 degrees Celsius). When alloyed (chemically combined) with other base metals the melting temperature of the resulting alloy is changed.

You would need a large crucible and an equally large furnace to go with it to start melting bullion along with a good idea of what to do with it once you've got it liquid.

To answer the original question, many of them are magnetic. There is a metal pin which is pierced through the clothing and then a plastic 'tag' on the other side (the thing that sets off the alarms). The pin is (if I remember correctly) glued in to the tag and can only be removed easily with a very strong magnet (which is located on the shop counter, or under it).

It is a piece of plastic witha sharp pin on and another piece of plastic with a hole in.

Thank you all But !! What holds the pin into the hole, it is obvious this pin has no barb or ridges, what keeps it from sliding out ?

ive been scouting the net ... found this http://www.sitebuys.com/securitytags/ and down the bottom theres universal magnetic tag detacher. . . . and i quote from another site "Many magnetic materials will respond very differently to electromagnetic fields when magnetized to saturation than when demagnetized, which might give you a clue as to the deactivation process. But if you learn too much more, you might be able to deactivate the tags yourself! " So there we have it it is something to do with magnets

I am sure a large lump hammer would do the trick I find it works on most things, not that I condone shop lifting, of all the theft based crimes it has to be the most un classy
