Losing heat too quickly

Something someone has said to me has concerned me a little.

I said about how it is refreshing to have the holes in a cycle helmet as you cool down when going down hills when sweating after going up the hill. I was then told that you are also losing a phenomenal amount of heat very quickly through the top of your head and to ask a doctor about the consequences of this!!

Could someone tell me what they mean please?

You are not losing as much heat as you would with no helmet. I think they are talking complete nonsense.
Everyone looses heat through their head - thats why they tell you to wear a hat in the winter to keep you warm - its kinda to keep the heat in. So the helmet must have holes for the heat that you build up while cycling to escape or else you would get too hot!

Hi! Thanx for your replies :o)

This was one of their arguments for not wearing a cycle helmet when out on their bike because it is dangerous for the head to cool down so quickly when going down hill.

I don't see how it can be anymore dangerous than not wearing a helmet.

Thanx again!
As the 1st answer hinted - how is this any worse than not wearing a helmet thus not having any insulation on their head, and losing heat across their entire head?

Also I'd tell them, well they'll lose a lot more heat if they have a crash without one on....aka being dead.

Cheers Trev :o) I think they are just trying to find any excuse not to wear one and try to make me look silly in the process for actually wearing one.
I just couldn't understand what they were trying to get at about this losing heat too quickly from head by wearing one??!
