how does a barometer work? If the barometric pressure is hi does that mean good or bad weather. If the pressure is low does that mean good or bad weather? Thanks

A barometer measures air pressure. Exactly how it does this depends on the type of barometer. At this time of year (summer in the UK) high pressure generally means good weather.
An old aviation fact is the Buys Ballot rule (he was a dutch Meteorologist). That states: If you stand with your back to the wind, the low pressure is on your left i.e bad weather
