(this is a continuation of "lead")
How do you make a metal chloride solution so that i can plate lead with another cheap and common metal .I can get a mixture of chlorine and hydrogen gas by puting a current through a salt solution ,but i dont know if that will be enough or if i can separate if easaly or ever if i can use it. (i would like it if the materials where cheap and accessable). if and where can I buy the materials or chloride solution?
Why don't you just go to your local chemist and ask for a solution of Copper Sulphate, tell them you want to demonstrate electroplating to someone, if they ask.
commonly metal chlorides are prepared using hydrochloric acid.
2Cu(s) + 2HCl(aq) --> CuCl(aq) +H2
This can be prepared using common copper metal unsure the suface is rough; increase rate of reaction. Copper can be found in any high street hardware store, along with diluted HCi.
