Tumble dryer Sideways?

Hello, I know it sounds a bit stupid, but will it damage a tumble dryer if I use it on its side? Its just that in my kitchen, space is very sparce, but I could fit it under my work surface if it lays on its side. Its not a new machine, but I just wondered if it would break if it runs on its side? Any opinions will be gratefully received. Thanks Fraser

Moisture may not vent properly and possibly build up inside the dryer if it's not used in the way it's designed to be used. This moisture could cause corrosion or even electrical failure. Any guarantee would probably be invalid in the case of a breakdown. Heating elements are also often in the bottom of the machine so the heat rises, so the drying may not be as effective. I personally would say don't do it.

Mortar's right, as the water will drain out the bottom of the drop when the dryer's upright, if you lay it on it's side the drain would be on the side and water would collect in the bottom. It's probably not worth considering adapting it, although inside our old tumble dryer was very simple.

If your were to take the sheet metal shroud off the machine, you would see that the tumbling "tub" rides on bearings and will only work in an upright position.
