Colour of tarmac

Recently, the pavement along a main road near me has been dug up and put back together again. Why is it that the tarmac colour on pavement was grey but now its red? Is it a cycle bit.

Could be a cycle lane (sse if any white lines/symbols appear in the next few days) or it could just be the Borough Engineering committee thinks it looks pretty (yes, this happens too!).

Coloured tarmac is usually used to delineate different uses for the pavement (footpath, cycle way, bus lane etc) or to make it less slippery. If you really want to know why it's been done in your area, give your local authority's highways department a call - they will have been responsible for the design and construction.
