How much should eletricity bill cost?
6 Answers
I have just been hit by my first electricity bill by EDEF and I think that it is a lot of money considering that we are 2 adults living in a flat, using Storage heaters and the bill is only for 10 from end of feb to beginning may. I live in Greater London (so outside inner)
So the bill comes to 258 for that period. Isn't this a lot of money? I think that we use our electricity reasonably and during the winter period did have the heater in our room on all night.
What do you reckon, as this is the first time that I am in charge of my utility bills (except for student days when we were on prepay) and I was expecting something around 150.

My bill was 50 per month this included heating (one storage heater and sometimes convector heater in bedroom), electric shower, kitchen appliances, tv and lighting. I was living alone but wouldnt think that one other person would increase the bill that much. I see no reason why living in london should be a factor but you never know with these companies.
Was it an estimated bill or actual?

Did you take note of Meter Readings when you moved in as it is important to get a 1st and Final reading just incase of discrepancies ?
Your Bill seems excessive and should be queried with your Elecricity Supplier. I use Economy 7 in my Flat and my average Bill is around 12-14 Weekly. My supplier is Scottish Power.

All of this comparison data for filthiestfis is of limited help unless you start comparing insulation you've all got.
If filthiestifis has little or no insulation in the roofspace and the draughts blow through the cracks, the heating system is going to work overtime to try and keep up.
Economy7 / storage rads are the poorest value of virtually any of the heating sources at the best of time.
Get some more insulation in there before next winter comes, Fil.

Thanks to all. I did take the meter reading when first moved in but it was my landlord who was responsible for providing this information to them so I am going to query that by ringing EDEF again and giving them THAT intial reading, which I recorded.
It may be true that my insulation is crap, but we are renting so can move out next year.
