We have a Hotpoint Aquarius washing machine, about 11 years old and never had any problems with it until now. I did a load of washing on Sunday, then this morning went to put on the next load and the drum had 2 inches of water standing in it. It definitely wasn't there when I emptied the last load. I put it on to do a short spin and the water drain away and I then did my load of washing and it seems OK now. How did the water get into the drum when the door was open and the machine switched off? Thanks S

Not sure why it 's there well after your last wash but you could try cleaning out the filter. Also if you can get to the pump, squeeze the pipes leading into it and see if you can feel any objects. If so unclip the pipe and remove anything you find.
Obviously unplug the machine first and have something to soak up any spillage that may occur, your next load will do.
Hope that helps.
sounds possibly a faulty inlet valve?
same as a dripping tap

see what it's like in three days
if it is just a one off then it was a bit of limescale (or some other debris) caught in the inlet valve which will wash itself out with the next use.

if it keeps happening then it's a faulty inlet valve, not a huge problem if it is.

As mentioned try the filter first, or it could be a faulty valve. Conditioner makes a nasty gunk in all the pipes etc. To keep it clean, run a handful of soda crystals in the empty machine on it's hottest setting once every 2 or 3 months. This helps break down the gunk inside.
Is the outpipe linked to the sink? I had this problem and the water going down the sink was going into the washing machine. I straightened the outpipe hose on the washing machine reconnected and problem solved.
