Frustrating gas lighters

For a particular purpose, I use a long lighter. Unfortunately, I find that these become less and less effective due to the intensity of the flame fading over time in spite of being full of gas and set to maximum. There is no question of them getting dirty either. The latest lighter has lasted less than three months and already when I trigger it the flame is barely visible once it finally comes on after repeated tries. Is there anything I can do to get back to a decent flame like I got when it/they were new - short of buying a new one ?

I find that the 'Cricket' cooker lighter is one of the best available. Got mine in Asda for a couple of quid, and it's the most reliable and long-lasting I've ever had.
