BT rates and low usage discounts

As i hardly use my landline these days i enquired with BT a few months ago whether i qualify for low usage rates for the line rental. I suspect with the spread of mobile phones most of us would qualify for it. The operator checked my accounts and said i do qualify for the low rates. But then she asked me if i own a mobile phone. when i said yes she stated that then you will not qualify. Wheres the logic in that?? how can the link be made with mobile phonespossession and low line rentals for land lines. is it legal to make this stipulation??

Sorry, but BT are a commercial company and they can offer the deals that they want and set against them any conditions that they want, just like any other commercial company

I agree - lie.  What's it got to do with BT if you've got a mobile?  But - they are starting to offer BT and O2 packages which I'll be looking into soon.  (When it's been running a while and all the bugs are ironed out!)

Just lie to them. Phone again, and just say you dont have a mobile phone. Under data protection they are not really supposed to ask you that question anyway, and should not be allowed to check thereafter to see if you do have a mobile phone.

I pay NTL �15 for my unlimited internet use and get �15 of free phone calls from NTL through my BT line. If I use more than �15 (say �15.90) that's what I get billed in total, so I look at it as if I either get my calls or my internet free
