(Obviously I am taking my sanity in my hands, here, but needs must, etc)
I have cut the moulded plug off an appliance in order to fix an extension box and cable.
However, the colours of the 3-core wire are 'new' and I want to be certain which correspond to which before I blow up my new TV.
I have;
blue
black
black with a white stripe (or perhaps it is white with a black stripe).
"Wire" you doing this? To save money perhaps? I am with NazNomad on this one; you can not be too careful on matters like this. Most house fires are electrical, so best to cut up the plug as suggested.
Find someone with an electrician's meter to check the continuity between the wires and the moulded plug's pins. I'm left wondering what kind of appliance it was, and who on earth could have made it. Your description of the non-standard colours used makes my hair stand on end!!
It's a kettle lead, kosmos, and thus unpluggable from the rear of the TV.
I have a bundle of cables already in position sticking out of my beautifully and recently plastered chimney-breast. I had (naively) assumed that all I needed to do was lop off the plug, and connect the newly exposed wires to the connector-box.
Thanks for your help, kosmos.
I spent a fraught day moving furniture and fittings from one room to another and the last task to be accomplished was putting the pesky TV on the wall................
I thought someone may be able to provide a quick answer for me but it would appear not.
I think I may just spend the day hacking plugs off kettle-leads until I get some wires I recognise !! :o)
The kettle-lead will still plug into the rear of the TV in the same manner, but I shall seek a more conventional one where the wires are more obviously colour-coded than they are in the one that I decapitated.
