Huge bike tyre problem !

I made a stupid mistake recently.
I bought the biggest thickest off road tyres I could get for my prized titanium xc mountainbike. They're Specialised "clutch" folding tyres and were fairly expensive.

Here's the mistake: the back one *only just* fits inside the chain stays and rather than returning them, I decided to give it a bit of a 'haircut' - just a little skim off the knobbles at the edges. There is now about 2 mm clearence on each side and it's still not enough (it rubs when I'm pedalling hard or cornering).

Now here's the question - can anyone think of a better way of taking off more other than continuing with my heavy duty scissors ?

Nah, that'll make a nasty sticky seedy mess, I might try a strawb instead.

Seriously though - I might try that, though I think it might just make the rubber go all 'fluffy'.
Got an angle grinder?
have you got a mate with a power file, mine is great on screw heads, paint , wood , you name it and it files it down

Question Author
Yes I have - I suppose an 80 grit sanding disc on it might do the job.
^^ Diamond ... :-P
Get the wheel spinning first, less chance of a flat-spot.
Question Author
Sorry Dr Filth - that was in response to Naz's ankle grinder suggestion.
The power file option may also work though - thanks 4 that.
Question Author
Yes - like a giant spindle-lathe ! I'm all excited now and wanna give it a go !
(Maybe tomorrow).
A diamond disc ?
'Diamond' was a tongue-in-cheek response to ''you name it and it files it down'', lol

A sanding disc should do it.

If my "huge bike" had a tyre problem, there would be a huge comma between 'bike' and 'tyre' in the title line - captain clever ;-)

Yes, that's me Naz.
Woops. Bit touchy aren't we?
My son often has Specialised Bikes and I've known him to have the same tyre problem ... only once though.

He always buys the right tyres since then.

He got a bottle of beer and a stool and a scalpel ... and you can guess the rest..!
