Please can you advise me - is it easy to change insurance online. I usually walk into an office in town to renew, but wonder if I am paying over the odds for this? All suggestions welcome.
I'm off out now, but will look in later for your replies, many thanks.

You may want to wait til current insurance is about to expire - or you'll have to cancel it and there may be a penalty (or hefty admin. charge). Then choose your new provider (either price comparison site or get quotes online from Which? recommended companies eg NFU Mutual, M&S, LV, John Lewis insurance or RIAS- if you are over fifty). Pay premium online and it's done.
Excellent, straight forward guide here

I have a large excess because I believe it saves me a lot of money.
a) I don't like claiming for anything under £300 because every claim pushes the future premiums up so a low excess is pointless.
b) I know I have to have insurance for peace of mind and I have to pay it every year (or month). I don't know that I will ever have to claim, so keeping the premiums down makes sense to me.
c) I can afford the excess. If I couldn't I may have a different strategy.
d) I make sure I have adequate cover otherwise insurance is pointless.
This way I know I have good insurance if a plane lands on my roof or my house burns down and keep my costs down to around £120 a year, including accidental damage to my high end tvs and pcs.
