My insurance renewal came through, wrong side of eight hundred notes. Rang them up, told them my points were spent and came off my licence in January but they said that even though the points were spent the conviction had to stay on file for 5 years.
Rang round a few others, as you do, and was being quoted in the region of 500 smackers. They all said once my points were off and my license clean again they couldn't give two hoots what I may have had my collar felt for in the past. They also told me that the two non fault accidents that I've had in the last 5 years do not need declaring as the other driver's insurers paid out in both instances and I recovered my excess. I'm not sure about this. I think it is a material fact. The saving of three hundred nicker is very tempting but I want it to be 100% above board.
Just fill in everything that is asked for.
In my experience they will ask about all accidents/claims in the last five years, including non-fault ones, in which case they must be declared
Just got home and opened the written confirmation of the cheapest quote. Littered with errors. The most apparent is that they have me shown as female. When I spoke to the insurers on the 'phone I was recovering from a cold and sounded like Barry White gargling with wasps. That and the name I gave them should have made my gender clear.
What a result! Spoke to them this morning and told them about the mistakes. As it was their error they are honouring their original quote, so my premium is 500 portraits instead of 600. The conversation was recorded (by me and probably by them too) and will be followed up in writing.
But they did warn me that next year I would be charged a realistic premium. Will I balls! Shop around time again!
