The smaller the engine, the cheaper it can be, to start & gain experience & Gain N.C.B, Go for the likes of a Peugeot / Fiesta / Corsa, the fuel will depend on your Daughters right foot! If she starts been a tear @rse, she will pay the price in a few ways, Insurance / Endorsements / Higher fuel costs, that will be up to her, If you intend to bye take someone with you that knows a bit about cars / Mechanics of a car / history / HPI Check etc, Do not bye off the side of the road with Mobile Nos, ( You can come unstuck) depending on your cost, make sure you get a warranty.

I advise doing a price comparison quote then just change the make & model of vehicle, not all insurers will be cheaper for small engined cars, Insurance is about statistics as well as engine size. 'Cool' cars like Fiat 500's, Clios and Corsa's have a high claim record so that can outway the fact they are smaller BHP. Also Old, cheap bangers are dangerous - premiums may be high on 10+ year old cars. The van example 'Methyl' works, but only on car derived vans, not Transits etc.
