I bitched about this last year – but no harm repeating myself; if reading this could save you £30+

Received my house insurance (buildings & contents) renewal notification at approx £110. Just obtained an on-line quote from my insurer's website at approx £80 for the same cover.

Always worth shopping around at renewal, even with the company you're already with - they bank on people being too lazy to do so.
Am I missing something....Is that £80 for building AND contents, or you talking about your garden shed?
Question Author
No, that is for a three bedroom end of terrace property.
That is amazingly cheap even at the original price, for buildings and contents. Ours is about £300 p.a.
Flipping ek. Where do you live?
Question Author
All I can say is try Direct-line.

I should add that I have had no claims within the last 5 years and there is a £200 excess on each of the buildings and contents sections of the policy.

The last time I was charged circa £200 for my home insurance was when I originally purchased the property, and it was a condition of the mortgage that the insurance was arranged through the Building Society. I recall having to pay £25 to extricate myself from this arrangement (once it was an available option in the terms & conditions).

The property is north of London, just outside the M25.
mine is also around 300
I always shop around every year for all my insurances.
I had my car insurance renewal in the post yesterday. Fully comp for a 13 year old 2.0l Honda Accord £378.90.
Went on compare the market same details came up at £198.60 with the same company. I telephoned them to ask if they would honour the web price or would I have to cancel and go down the on line route.
They honoured the web price and I do not have to do anything else. Worth shopping around. But is this now part of rip off Britain.

You'll only know if its good value if you ever have to make a claim, which I hope you don't. Read all the small print.
I also shop around for breakdown cover, AA renewal rates are always a lot higher than on line, ring up and query the price and down it comes
