Insurance On Parcels

Royal Mail want around £100 to insure a parcel they’re taking to Denmark, value £2500. (That’s on top of the £120-ish they want for the carriage).

Is there a better/cheaper way of insuring goods in transit?

Can't help, but it looks to me as if they're suggesting that they lose 1 in 25 parcels.
A parcel passed into their care should be their responsibility anyway. (One ought not to have to pay separate insurance to cover a logistics company's incompetence.)

Wouldnt it be cheaper to jump on a flight and get the recipient to meet you at the airport.

It seems the insurance is always going to be around the £120 mark but the delivery costs are considerably cheaper than Royal Mail. Check out DPD

HC Hence the original question... I was hoping there’d be some carriage insurers where you could buy direct.

Re the carriage charge - I wanted somewhere extra reliable rather than cheap, but I didn’t want to get ripped off either.

Seems Royal Mail will probably be best bet.

Could you split the parcel into smaller ones. I have saved pounds by doing this before. Don't know about the insurance though.

Thought of that Andres, but as I said above, the carriage charges aren’t a problem.

I’m getting to the point where I think maybe 5% or so of value is the market rate after all!

I think it’s bite the bullet time.
