How long?
Hi All
I have just made a claim on my home insurance for damage to recently bought LCD TV.
I have had the TV taken away by a thrid party of the insurance and have been told it has been written off.
I am still waiting for my insurance company to let me know whats happening ie if they are going to replace it.
What is a reasonable amount of time for them to sort out the claim? It is now the forth week from the claim date.
Thanks all.

They have told me I can not contact the third party!!! I don't see why. I personally think that someone is sitting on their hands at the insurance company. I have no TV at all, we only have the one.
I am beginning to lose my patience with them to be honest but as I have never claimed before I am not sure how long these things take to sort out.

Don't do household, but I work for a motor insurer.
Stupid question, but what happened to the TV?
I know we have problems with our engineers - they say the report has been sent, and sometimes our policyholders know the outcome before us!
It's quite possible that the insurers have the report, but it's been referred to a different team or a manager.
I don't want you to think this is an accusation, but insurance fraud is prevalent (more so coming up to xmas), so they're probably making sure everything is above board - does seem a long time to sort this out though

Thanks for your answer Gouldc.
It is a completely legitimate claim. I have only had the TV for around 18 months and I am/was completely happy with it.
Basically a friend of ours tot threw a metal fire engine toy at the screen and put what looks like a digital crack on the screen when you switch it on. The actual screen is not cracked though. It has been written off by the third party
totally understand the fraud side but for me its so frustating not having a TV esp with the England game coming up!!

Can't really see what the issue is if it's that straight forward?
Could well be they're trying to find a cheaper alternative than paying out.
I don't understand why they're witholding the assessors details from you either - they're obliged to release this information to you (I know we have to).
Personally, I'd be on the phone to the Ombudsman by now.

Just to let you know, I had a call from the Insurance today and they have given the go ahead for a new TV. I should get a call from the third party tomorrow to arrange a delivery date. The insurance company have also said I can up grade if I like but at my cost. I am just happy now its sorted.
You have given me loads of good advice and info and thank you for that.
Cheers.
