claiming for a tv on insurance

i am tring to claim for a lcd tv that i bought 4/5 years ago and will not work after a power. cut . they have asked me to supply a reciept but cannot remember if i bought it from currys or comet. what happens if i cant get copy reciept, and whats the procedure for the claim

You have no original paperwork - the guarantee, for example?

Do you use the same credit card for everything? Or debit card?

Did you buy it on finance?

That is an interesting question. I recently bought a 2 year old 32" TV from one of my friends who was emigrating for �100 in cash.

What would happen if I needed to make a claim? I wouldn't have a receipt either.

Cheekychops - depends on your type of insurance.

Mine is 'old for new'. If my electrical equipment had to be replaced by the insurance company, they'd confirm the specs and arrange either delivery or collection of the nearest similar available. I would have to pay the excess. They wouldn't be interested in where it came from or how much I paid

i bought a top of the range 50" plasma, and on the way home i left it on the bus (der!), and ive lost my receipt, where do i stand?

I could get a handwritten receipt from my friend if necessary but obviously there would be nothing to say I hadn't written it myself!
