elephant.co.uk charge extra for professional drivers

I know the joke about Bus drivers but recently I passed my PCV test as well as a European driving test introduced for the first time in 2008 (C.P.C).

I wrote a rather proud letter to elephant.co.uk to say that I am now a professional driver so they would consider a reduction on my next years quote or at very best a small refund.
Instead I got a letter stating that they want �32.50 extra!

I called them up and they say there is a direct link between Bus Drivers and crashes in private cars. 5 times a day I pick up 90 people from Waterloo Station take them into the city of London and yet they think I would drive crazy picking up my boy from School on the very same day but not if I was an office clerk
They have promised to refund the money but are they right?, where can I find the evidence

I presume this is because traditionally (?) there would be a number of professional drivers who would run out of hours on their tacho but still proceed to drive their car.

sounds right to me,

i am an HGV driver and pay a little more because i do it for a living, therefore i am not as good a driver and more likely to have a smash than the little old lady over the road who is pushing 90, deaf and going blind and could not reverse for toffee (if she didn't have dentures that is !!) .......... yeah whatever

I passed my PCV test 7 years ago and, at that time, got a moderate discount from my then insurer (not sure which now, so not a lot of help).

Insurance companies base their charges on statistics - if they have insured a lot of bus drivers who have accidents thenthey will charge more - ring around for quotes at renewal and you may find a company whose statistics are different
