new car insurance

I get my new car next week. Have a temp (free) 7 day insurance from VW to cover the handover period. (they also gave me a quote for the year)... My current insurance is up for renewal in october. It's so long since i had a new car I cant remember how I do this. Does my current get cancelled and a new insurance start or do I just pay an adjustment with my current insurer until the renewal date comes up.

Ring your current insurer, and give the details of your new vehicle. They will change your insurance for the remaining time til Oct. Then you can look to see who you want to go with after that.
