The Consumers' Association publish a guide which covers all the basics of starting a business in the UK. When you've read it you might not know everything about the subject but you'll certainly be aware of the issues which you need to investigate further (and you'll probably know where to go to get the information you need). The last edition came out in 1999 so a few details might have changed but it's still an excellent starting point. It seems to be out of print at the minute but it's in almost every public library in the country and Amazon have got plenty of secondhand copies for under a quid:

Chris - I get the impression (and I'm sorry if I'm wrong) that dee5 has actually written a book, and was looking for suggestion for the title (s)he should give it!!!! Only cos (s)he said a title for rather than of a book!

dee5 - let me know if this is what you meant and I'll put my thinking cap on!! :-)

Read Risking It All by Martin Webb.

To be successful in business does not require vast qualifications, or even to be particularly bright. Loads and loads of common sense coupled with sheer hard work will take you a very long way. Never forget that.

January_bug:
I originally read the question in the same way that you did but I thought it far more likely that someone posting in 'Jobs & Careers' would be seeking to read a relevant book than find a title for one! If dee5 really wants a title for his/her own book, how about "Hard Work Made Easy"?

Chris
Buenchico - cool cool, although a lot of people have asked for suggestions for naming their shops on here before, and perhaps dee5 thought the more "business minded" people would be in this section. Anyway, I don't want to fall out with you, especially as, although only recently gone grey, you're an absolute 3* member!!! :-)
