career paths

hi all, ive just finished a contract with an agency and find myself out of work again. i have done warehouse and factory work for 8 yrs now and its something i dont wanna do. i would love to get into the construction industry but the problem is im 25 and companies dont seem to wanna train anyone these days. ive been on a college waiting list for 3 years and my question is does anyone know how i can gain access to this career path? i live in the birmingham area of england and would appreciate any advice you can offer
