my son is 8 school yr4, last week i had a bit of a run in with his teacher over homework, then on Friday he came home with a special mention certificate, which is handed out in assembly luckily the teacher handing them out did not brief the school why he was awarded it, as it reads "improved behaviour in the class" over the last 4 yrs my son has been in school I've never been told he's had behaviour problems and he's had glowing reports. he's above average in all the subjects... I'm wondering if she tried to humiliate him because of our disagreement on the Monday?

or is she trying to placate you following the disagreement?
I doubt very much that the teacher would be trying to humiliate him.
Maybe you should have a word with the teacher to see if there has been a behaviour problem.
But maybe the teachers just wanted to acknowledge good behaviour and gave the certificates to many/most pupils.
Surely an award for improved behaviour is a good thing?
His performance at lessons is not necessarily going to be low just because his general behaviour may fall short of ideal, is it? In fact many very bright pupils misbehave because they are not sufficiently challanged.
