Conditional Offer

Has anyone had a conditional offer turned down ? I am waiting for my offer but its at a conditional stage. They said that they were just waiting for a reference. I just wondered if people failed at this stage ?

My employer has certainly turned people down after a conditional offer subject to checks - either references or security.

No but things can go occasionally wrong because of references, medical details, CRB checks etc- and sometimes the employing organisation can have a change of mind- maybe a recruitment ban for financial reasons. I think it happens rarely though in my experience so it's very unlikely you will have a problem

Hmm come to think of it, you haven't said what the job is, perhaps it IS for an axe weilding maniac?
to be serious for a moment, i work in the NHS and our dept had a job freeze after someone had been provisionally offered a job, so it was withdrawn
