what if i get pregnant and havent started the job yet? im so worried, because its my ideal job, and i really want it as much as i want a baby. What is the process if such thing happens. many thanks

You are the sort of person who makes my blood boil. If you want a baby, have a baby. Why should some employer have to take on another member of staff, and pay for them, just so you can have a baby to play with. If you really want the job leave having a baby until you have at least given your poor employer some time after they have trained you. to see if you will be entitled to benefits. Having heard of people going for jobs knowing they are pregnant and then only telling employers when they have passed probation make me ashamed to be a woman. I know this is not a very PC view and expect people to get quite heated with my opinion.

I agree Anngel, she shouldn't be applying for a job, a woman's place is in the home.
And four....btw I am female.
But you won`t be doing your ideal job if you`re on maternity leave.
Don't necessarily agree that a woman's place is in the home. But I do think a mother's place is with her children, at least until they are at primary school. An old fashioned view I know.
what generally happens is that the employee is not usually entitled to occupation maternity pay (i think it's NHS isn't it?) However, they may be entitled to maternity allowance.
Take the job and cross that bridge if and when it arises. You never know how long it may take you to get pregnant. As for "process", if you find out you are pregnant, you are obliged to advise your employers within a certain timescale (which you will be advised of in various maternity booklets which the midwife/hospital will give you). If you find out you're pregnant before you get offered/accept the job, i'm not 100% sure, but i think that morally it would be right to let them know before you start.

Anngel - I agree - I think you were a little harsh there to be honest. Is phleb supposed to sit at home and sign on or something while waiting to get pregnant? Maternity rights only kick in when you've been with an employer for (i think) 6 months before becoming pregnant so there would be no adverse effect to an employer if they take someone on who is already pregnant and doesn't mention it. It's not a matter of political correctness - I would rather see someone looking for work while trying for a baby then sitting at home, sponging off benefits and breeding to get a bigger house.
looking at your previous post the job you're after requires a period of training (ie you're not yet qualified) and starts in about 6 weeks? I think you need to choose which is the most important to you right now and if it's the baby leave the job for someone else to take up the chance.

Some answers here strike me as a bit harsh, but it comes down to having your cake and the halfpenny. Young people are brought up bombarded by media messages that say this is however possible. So it shouldn't surprise us that a young person has believed that message.
Phleb, your potential employer is investing in you and might be less than thrilled if your first request is for maternity leave.
On the other hand, life's a long song and you only have a few baby years before you can be up and out again.
Some people have both - it costs dear, in money and emotion.
Give it all some thought.
phleb ,take the job if you get pregnant great if you dont youve got a dream job. I am assuming that you need to work to help fund the arrival of the baby like most young couples, so go for the job.

im not likely to get pregnant as yet, been trying for nearly 3 years!!! thanks for your views. I am actually already employed by the same trust, just moving job roles. It is my perfect job, and there are many people out there that dont work at all and bleed the system, i am not such a person to do that, as i have worked all my life, not once claimed benefits ever. I am in my late 30's and am ready for a baby, but because it hasnt happened for so long, i cannot stop living!!! therefore i went for this job!!! it is heartbreaking that i cant get pregnant. I only asked the question cox knowing life, things always happen in 2s and 3s and what if it did??? I am most dissapointed in some of the answers, which were thrown at me, without asking me the situation.
go for it!! Totally agree with nini, why should you not apply if you want a baby, are all women supposed to sit at home. When the people that are saying that are probably the same people that hate people on benefits. If you get pregnant within first 6 months the money comes from government anyway which it would if you were unemployed aswell. Three years is a long time to be trying I wish you all the best and hope you get your baby soon xx
