Hi, im a 14-year old boy. I have been told by lots of people how funny i am. and a lot of my friends have said to me that i should seriously think about stand-up. I watch alot on the tv and have countless videos/dvd's of the like of lee evans, peter kay etc. And after watching them i hav started to put some material together, i think its a good start but i want to know how i can make a breakthrough? Does anybody know of anyone or anything that can help me? advice etc. Thanks?

Check where the local comedy clubsa re in your area. Your local library our Tourist Information may help here. You may have to wait a while, because most of them are liscensed premises, so you may have an age restriction on performing there.

If you can't get in there, why not offer to do a ten minute spot at your local friendly pub or club? This will give you an idea of how to work an audience, timing, material and so on.

I wish you the very best of luck - it's a hard world to break into, but if youhave the talent and the will to succeed, you will make it.

Let us know how you get on.

most comedians sets are meticulously planned - even the ad libs.

it is a very different thing to making your pals laugh.

why not try filming your set once you have written it - then play it to people? its as much about timing and delivery and charisma as the script

at 14 you won't get any work, but you can spend the next few years practising your act.

bear in mind that "14 year old" humour won't go down too well in a club full of seasoned comedy buffs, so try to get some more grown up stuff together.

good luck

Thanks alot guys. My material so far is alot more for the adults anyway, most of my friends iv tried it out on find it quite challenging to understand. Once i have a video of me in action i will try and post it on here for you to have a look at, Thanks again.

Maybe you should pursue a career studying drama, and media studies which would support your choosen career
Why dont you make a podcast, obviously no good for visual humour but a cheap and easy way to get your work out there for people to listen to.

excuse my ignorance but can you explain what a podcast is? how i would make one etc? thanks again people
A podcast is basically an MP3 audio recording of your material, so all you need is a microphone and your computer to record it on. Once your happy with the recording then you upload your podcast to a suitable website (see google search). People are then free to download it to play on their ipod or similar MP3 player.

If your podcast is popular then it will go up the podcast charts and people will want to subscribe to your broadcasts if they are released on a regular basis.

Give it a go, you have nothing to lose except a little time and its very popular as there are tens of thousands of people podcasting on a regular basis.

If you want to check some out, then download itunes free (you dont need to have an ipod) and there you can download and listen to some.
Statto, you should read up everything on Bill Hicks and what he did to become a comedian, he was about your age and started working at clubs doing short slots. Also as a comedian he was a genius, sadly passed away now, only Richard Pryor could be mentioned in same breath. Good luck.
